[Released on August 24, 2011]

With the approval on third and final reading of its resolution concurring in the ratification of the Rome Statute, the Senate has paved the way for the Philippines to join the International Criminal Court (ICC), with a vote of 17-1. President Aquino had endorsed the Rome Statute on May 6, 2011. Following this development, the Department of Foreign Affairs will deposit the instrument of ratification this week in New York.

This is a concrete demonstration of the administration’s commitment to human rights and accountability within and among nations."
